The Kwatriho’tat Committee (meaning “let’s all listen carefully”) brings together three members from VU (Jacynthe Carrier, Véronique Isabelle, and Anne-Marie Proulx) and three from Ahkwayaonhkeh (Ludovic Boney, Teharihulen Michel Savard, and Manon Sioui). Part of this committee was originally formed in 2019 to ensure constant and attentive monitoring of the actions carried out during Yahndawa’ and continued for the Alliance. The committee also ensures compliance with cultural protocols and traditional knowledge, language, and intellectual property of the Wendat and, more broadly, Indigenous peoples. This has resulted in a governance experience that has proven essential in enabling genuine collaboration between our communities, fostering Indigenous-non-Indigenous relations in the Onyionwentsïo/Quebec region.
Currently, the Kwatriho’tat committee oversees activities to ensure that cultural intellectual property is respected and, when necessary, calls on experts to assist with certain decisions. To ensure respect for traditional knowledge, language, and intellectual property of the Wendat people, and more broadly of Indigenous peoples, we must rely on our elders and their long-standing teachings, and, when in doubt, consult with those who are the guardians of various forms of knowledge and who will guide us toward the protocols to be followed. It is a matter of conscience, trust, and responsibility.
